Crystallization symbolizes gradual growth, transformation, and creation of internal structures, which may appear chaotic on the outside. The possibilities of metaphorical interpretations are inexhaustible. The gradual crystallization of salt and sodium acetate on found tree trunks captures the time itself and can thus be understood as a parallel to the medium of photography.
Creating crystal structures is also a meditative practice, in which internal processes are mirrored. For the author, it is additionally a placeholder symbol of similarly long-term efforts to build more balanced relationships with the closest members of her own family.
