“The image of a reading women is far from neutral. Repeated, staged, captured in passing – it recurs so often that it becomes an archetype. A quiet act that folds in emancipation, ideology, politics, romance, education, domesticity – or resistance. In the zine I tried to highlight this motif and how it’s chaging by the time and moving from painting into photography.
To work with the archive, it is sometimes important to focus not so much on what it shows, but rather on what it hides. I decided to re-photograph and physicaly manipulate those archival images to emphasize again their materiality and new possible ways of re-reading and re-conceptualizing them.”
